THE POWER OF RESILIENT LEADERSHIP

Football coach Johnny Majors found his primary success by focusing on building resilient teams. He said, “80% of college football games are won in the fourth quarter”. Most games are close enough to come down to those final minutes.

I heard people say starting is half the battle.
That may be true but it is the finishers who become successful.

Resilient leaders don’t focus on negative experiences or setbacks. They focus on what they are learning from those experiences and building resilience.

Question for leaders:
Where have you been fading in your passion for work and life?
What difficult experiences left you discouraged?
What are 2-3 key learnings from the challenges you are facing?
Can you take a step back to regain perspective and strengthen your resolve, in order to persist?
Things you probably don’t know about the resilience of Walt Disney:
  • Fired from the Kansas City Star newspaper for lack of creativity. The paper was later bought by Disney in 1996.
  • Laugh-O-Gram Studios (FAILED).
  • Oswald the Lucky Rabbit (FAILED).
  • Mickey Mouse was rejected before succeeding.
  • Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was rejected at first, but then, Disney invested his own money to see it become successful.
  • He went bankrupt and suffered a nervous breakdown only to recover and seek investors for Disneyland.
  • Disney faced numerous obstacles– put to work at age 9 and had only an 8th-grade education.

Here’s to your resilience in making your dreams come true!
