EMOTIONAL AFFINITY:
A Surefire Way to Establish Rapport
I recently had the privilege of presenting our new keynote/workshop program Emotional Health and Balance, Strategies to Stress-proof your Teams and Leaders. It was at Mount Nittany Health’s 2023 Leadership Symposium, a dedicated two-day event of inspiration, insights, and empowerment of health professionals across America.
One of the things that were an unexpected “surprise and delight” moment for me was being hosted by one of the leaders, Roger Greene. Roger was kind enough to pick me up at the airport. He also hosted me on a driving tour of Penn State University– outlining the campus facilities, studies, and history. My favorite site was the 110,000-seat football stadium. We had a wonderful dinner conversation that evening. On the day of the event, he made sure I felt comfortable and set me up for success.
Sad to say, one of the lost arts today among leaders is Emotional Affinity and establishing rapport.
Roger modeled servant leadership to me. Even though I’ve traveled a lot and presented to scores of organizations, there is something very special about feeling special. It’s not about ego. It’s about emotional affinity and building meaningful connections.
I challenge you this week on building emotional affinity and rapport. Help others by meeting their needs. They will trust you– believe me, it’s HUMAN NATURE.
Finally, helping others is the essence of leadership.
Thank you, Roger Greene, and all the leaders at Mount Nittany!
