The Single Most Important Principle I’ve Learned
The single most important principle I’ve learned:
“We make our habits and our habits make us.”
My 2022 word of the year is RENEWAL. Renewal of good habits– spiritual, physical, mental, and emotional habits.
Did you know that around 40% of everything we do on a daily basis is habitual?
- For instance, I get up at 5:00 am, a habit.
- I drink my Athletic Greens at 5:15 am, a habit.
- I feed my amazing dog, Sadie, at 5:20 am, a habit.
- I brew a steamy, hot coffee from my Keurig coffee maker at 5:25 am, a habit.
- I sit and drink my coffee to soft music and offer my first prayers of the day at 5:30 am, a habit.
- By 5:40 am, I am moving into a selective reading session, a habit of over 15 years. I’ve been committed to reading one book a month, also a habit.
Trust me, I’m not a robot, and not every day is perfectly scripted but I’ve discovered the POWER OF HABITS. If you want different results that will last for years, you need to instill some new habits. Create a script of what your perfect day looks like.
Now think of 3-5 new or renewed habits and put them in your time slots.
Example: Last year, I’ve decided I needed more pure greens, vitamins, and nutrients. I put on an automatic order for a complete year and created the habit that the very first thing in my day was to take my greens.
True story: I’ve only missed one day in over 6 months. I just forgot to bring them on our Christmas getaway. I know that’s a very simple example but I hope your mind is thinking of 3-5 habits you can build.
Let me close with 3 simple reminders:
- Habits either empower or disempower your actions.
- Habits either limit or liberate you from other obligations.
- Habits either help you or hinder you from reaching your goals.
Here’s to building better habits!
