10 Leadership Skills You Need Now
We made the best of Easter 2020, even with the heavy hearts for the overwhelming loss of life on this day of hope. I rose early Monday fighting off anger, disbelief, and complacency as I was determined to go forward, stay focused on controlling my mindset, and zoned in on reenlisting my leadership skills.
I’d like to share my top 10 leadership skills list with you this week.
1. Communication
I choose to be a voice of optimism, wisdom, and clarity to those I influence, avoiding pessimism and despair.
2. Inspiration
Great leaders create a vision of the future that is vivid and compelling, even in dark and uncertain times.
3. Positivity
Leaders know that they have the power to fuel and reset others with a positive attitude. Each day is the day to bring positive belief into the world. We can! We will!
4. Honesty and Integrity
Sharing open, honest information empowers employees and team members to gain trust and security even during tough times.
5. Problem Solving
No greater skill may be needed than problem solving. My mentor, Ron Mehl would say, “Your business card should read C.S.F, Chief Solution Finder.”
6. Expertise
Become valuable today by being an expert in your field, lead with your expertise. Many will fade into the shadows, leaders lead with expertise for “such a time as this.”
7. Creativity
It’s not “think outside the box” as the box has been “blown up”. We need to gather 2-3 key leaders and rethink our new normal – new innovation for this critical time.
8. Flexibility
Today, display flexibility and be willing to break the mold. You will need to try new ways, new models, new technologies, and new avenues to reach and connect with your team and clients.
9. Delegation
Top leaders know how to empower others. Now is not a time to micromanage. Rather enlist in the best in others, as they will rise to the occasion.
10. Mentoring and Coaching
Great leaders have one primary goal: bring out the best in others and bring out their potential.
If you work on these crucial leadership skills and strive to continually improve yourself, you will be able to drive both yourself and your team to new success.
Here’s to a strong week ahead!
