Eight Qualities of Emotionally Intelligent Leaders
Most of us don’t get to choose our family. We do choose how we treat our family and how to edify, lift up, or neglect others. Your family’s health, in many respects, is a reflection of your ability to nurture or neglect.
When I present my keynote program, Emotional Intelligence for Extraordinary Leadership, I explore the five stages of relationships. These stages apply to marriage, family, team relationships, team morale, and more. The stages I go over are romance, reality, resentment, rebellion, and rebuilding/renewal.
What stage are your relationships in right now?
The good news is, no matter where you are or what stage you are currently in, you can choose to rebuild and renew.
Here are eight qualities of emotionally intelligent leaders who choose to rebuild or build-up relationships:
1. They choose to be steady, rather than volatile.
2. They choose to be open, rather than deceitful.
3. They choose to serve, rather than be selfish.
4. They choose to be refreshing to others, rather than draining.
5. They choose to be secure and confident, rather than insecure.
6. They choose to be accepting, rather than judging.
7. They choose to be gracious, rather than discourteous.
8. They choose to be kind, rather than rude.
Take a moment to think about your relationships. Relationships take courage and work to build (or rebuild), but it’s rewarding and fulfilling above all.
Here’s to relationships that matter!
