Three Ways to Unleash the Power of a Dream
I’m currently working with two outstanding and dynamic companies committed to defining four things:
1. Their compelling reason to exist
2. Their determined accomplishments
3. Their vital vision (looking forward for the next 12-24 months)
4. Their dream that disrupts cruise control
You will never go further than your dreams take you.
During his tenure as President of Coca-Cola (1923-1955), Robert Woodruff boldly declared, “Every man in uniform gets a bottle of Coca-Cola for 5 cents, wherever he is and whatever it costs the Company.” When World War II ended, Woodruff stated that before he died he wanted, “Every person in the world to have tasted Coca-Cola.”
I personally keep a statement locked in my mind, “My dream is going to make a significant impact in the world in which I live. I am creating a lasting legacy.”
Let me provide you with three ways to unleash the power of a dream:
1. Pull back the curtain of mediocracy. Call it out and determine going forward will disrupt the norm for yourself and professional life.
2. Be bold. Get clear in exactly what you will accomplish and paint a vivid picture. You will never accomplish what you don’t 100% define and declare.
3. Strip away distractions, events, people, and schedules that derail your focus. Build a sacred enclosure of those things that will drive towards your dreams.
Remember, dreams give us direction, increase our potential, help us prioritize, and add value to our work.
One final challenge, dare to dream and act on your dreams — And, do it now. Do it in spite of challenges, uncertainty, or obstacles. You can pursue a dream no matter where you are today. What mattered in your past isn’t as important as what lies ahead in the future.
